Accessibility
Accessibility at the practice
The practice is on the ground floor and everything a visitor needs is on it. What follows is what is actually here rather than a statement of intent.
What there is
- The entrance is level with the pavement, with no step and no lip
- The door is wide enough for a wheelchair and is held open rather than sprung
- The waiting room, all three lanes, the frame room and the lavatory are on the ground floor
- The lavatory has a grab rail and a door that opens outward
- Two chairs in the waiting room have arms, which matters more than most people think
- One examination lane takes a wheelchair without a transfer
- We will come out to the pavement to help somebody in, if you ring from outside
- A companion, a carer or an interpreter is welcome in the lane and nobody will ask them to wait outside
What there is not
- There is no dedicated parking bay outside; the nearest accessible parking is on the side street
- We do not have a hearing loop, and the pre-test alcove is a noisy room to lip-read in
- Guide dogs are welcome everywhere in the building except the bench, which has swarf on the floor
Tell us when you book
What to say, and why it helps
- Tell us when you book if you need the ground-floor lane, and it will be held
- Tell us if you would rather not have drops, and we will discuss what that means for the appointment
- Tell us if bright light is difficult, and the lane can be run darker than usual
- Tell us which language you would rather use and we will book somebody who speaks it where we can
Ready when you are
Ring to book an eye examination, or come in and browse the frame room — no appointment needed to look.
