Two halves, one practice

What we do

An examination lane and a frame room, run out of the same building on 61st Street. Below is everything in both, with the same card and the same grid for each — the colour is the only thing that changes.

In the examination lane

What an optometrist does. Every one of these ends with somebody telling you what they saw and what happens next.

In the examination lane

Dry eye

Gritty, burning, watering, worse by evening, worse on screens.

Dry eye

In the examination lane

Low vision

An hour spent on the tasks you want back, not on the chart.

Low vision

In the frame room

What an optician does. Nothing here needs an appointment to start, and nothing here is sold as a cure.

In the frame room

Frames

Four house collections, browsable without an appointment.

Frames

One diary, both halves

What a visit costs, and how long it takes

An examination in a lane and a frame adjustment at the dispensing table are booked in the same diary and published in the same table below, side by side — every visit says its own length and its own fee before you book it.

Every appointment type, its length and its fee. A first visit adds a little more.

Lenses and coatings, priced apart from the frame

A frame's price is the frame alone. The lens design and every coating are chosen afterwards and priced on their own below, which is the only honest way to show what a pair of glasses actually costs before a prescription has been written.

Lens designs

Lens designs, priced on their own. Every figure is a starting price for the simplest version of that design.
Lens designWhat it isFrom
Single vision One power across the whole lens. Distance, or reading, or a screen. $95
Varifocal, long corridor Distance, middle and near in one lens, with the widest usable middle. $325
Varifocal, short corridor The same three zones, compressed, for a shallower frame. $295
Bifocal Two powers with a visible line between them. $175
Occupational Built for a desk rather than for a street. $245

Coatings

Coatings, added one at a time and priced one at a time.
CoatingWhat it doesFrom
Anti-reflection Lets more light through the lens and stops other people seeing it bounce off. $65
Scratch-resistant hard coat Makes a plastic lens harder to scratch. Not impossible to scratch. $35
Ultraviolet filter Blocks ultraviolet in a clear lens, with no tint. $25
Photochromic Darkens in daylight and clears indoors, slowly. $125
Polarised Cuts reflected glare off water, snow and wet roads. $95
Thinner material The same prescription in a thinner, lighter lens. $85

Straight talk

What we do not do

Every service above has its own “what this is not”. Nine pages say the rest of it plainly, in the open, rather than leaving it for you to find out.

Ready when you are

Ring to book an eye examination, or come in and browse the frame room — no appointment needed to look.
