Straight talk

We do not operate, and we are not an ophthalmologist

What you might expect to hear

“We can take care of your cataract here.”

What is actually true

An optometrist and an ophthalmologist are different professions with different training. Surgery, injections into the eye, laser and the medical management of eye disease belong to the second, and this practice is the first.

Why

The overlap between the two is real and is where most confusion comes from: we find the cataract, we measure how much it is costing you, and we are the people who tell you it is time. What happens next is done by a surgeon in an operating theatre, and no amount of equipment in this building changes that.

What we do instead

We refer, we send the images and the measurements with the referral so the appointment is not wasted repeating them, and we see you afterwards for the change in prescription that follows. Knowing where our half ends is most of what makes the referral useful.

The other eight

Straight answers to the rest of what this site will not pretend.

We examine, and we refer when it is time

Come in for the examination that decides whether a referral is what you need, and what to do while you wait for it.
