Retinal imaging and visual fields

A picture that can be laid beside next year's picture.

  • forty-five minutes (+fifteen minutes first visit)
  • $145

Two things happen here that an examination on its own cannot do. A photograph of the back of the eye records what it looked like today, and a scan measures the thickness of the layers of the retina in microns. Neither is a diagnosis. Both become far more useful the second time, because the comparison is the finding.

What this includes

  • A wide photograph of the retina of each eye
  • A cross-section scan through the macula where the detail vision sits
  • Images of the optic nerve head and the fibre layer around it
  • A map of the visual field where the history calls for one
  • Everything kept, so that next year has something to be compared with

What this is not

  • An image is a record, not a conclusion, and it is read by a person
  • It does not replace looking at the eye directly, and we do both
